In cooperation with Agial Gallery, Vanessa Gemayel holds her exhibition entitled “The Red City and Lace Nights”, which started yesterday, September 9, and will continue until October 2, 2021.
Vanessa's work is characterized by houses shaking, roofs swelling and entering swirls of ultra-blue, red, and deep green.
As for the sky, it's a heavy blanket, the sun a lime target turning orange, the scythe moon mowing through the Milky Way, the light like an explosion. You can't help but think of Van Gogh's sky and the "starry night."
According to Vanessa, “If homes were boats, rooftops would be sailing.”
Vanessa Gemayel is a Lebanese American painter, writer and DJ. She was born in Paris in 1985 and currently resides in Beirut. Her last short story was published in "The Circus" by Diptic Design Agency (Paris, 2021), along with drawings by Dominique le Tricoteur.
Gemayel has 5 solo exhibitions to her name, first held at Artlab in 2013. She has participated in many group exhibitions. One of her works appears in the J.D. Jacquemond at the Anatole Jakovsky Museum in Nice.
Gemayel's works embody the cultural landscape of Lebanon in all the different shapes and colors that inhabit it.
Art historian Jean-Dominique Jacomond has described her work as "brilliant".
