InterContinental Hotels and Resorts Group, one of the leading hotel companies in the world, announced the appointment of Haitham Matar as President of the India, Middle East and Africa region of the company, effective April 18, 2021.
 
Haitham Matar is considered one of the leading figures in the tourism and hospitality sectors in the aforementioned region, and has more than 25 years of professional experience in addition to a wide network of prestigious relationships in the sector.
In his new position, he will assume wide-ranging leadership responsibilities to drive the growth and prosperity of the Group's business in the Middle East, Africa and Southwest Asia, as his responsibilities will include development and operations across 165 existing hotels as well as more than 100 hotel facilities under development, representing the group's portfolio of brands. 
 
Mattar previously worked at Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts Group for 11 years, during the period from 2000 to 2011, during which time he held various positions in the operational, commercial, sales and marketing departments of the India, Middle East and Africa region. In his new role, Matar will operate from the group's offices in Dubai and report to Kenneth Macpherson, CEO of the Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa region.
 
In turn, Kenneth Macpherson expressed his happiness at the return of Haitham Matar to the group, especially at such a critical time in the travel and tourism sectors, enlightened by his great experience in the sector and the vital role he played in the success of many important strategic initiatives in the region over the past decade, and they are completely confident in him.
