The project to build a gigantic island that provides enough power for 3 million homes has received the green light from politicians in Denmark.

The area of the first energy island is set to reach 120,000 square meters (equivalent to the area of 18 soccer fields), and there are hopes to increase it to three times.

The island will be the center of 200 giant offshore wind turbines used to generate electricity.

This is the largest construction project in the history of Denmark, at an estimated cost of 210 billion kroner (34 billion dollars).

The artificial island, located 80 kilometers in the North Sea, will be owned by the state at least half of its shares, while the private sector will own a portion of its shares.
