Saudi Arabia is taking another bold step in redefining its cultural landscape with the launch of the Saudi Museum of Contemporary Art (SAMoCA), a landmark project that reflects the Kingdom’s growing investment in the arts.
Backed by a $490 million construction contract awarded by Diriyah Company, the museum will rise in Diriyah—a historic site undergoing a major transformation into a global cultural destination.
Designed by Godwin Austen Johnson, with support from Rafaat Miller Consulting, the museum will span more than 45,000 square metres. But beyond its scale, its true ambition lies in its purpose: to become a leading platform for Saudi modern and contemporary art.
SAMoCA is envisioned as more than a museum—it’s a space for dialogue, creativity, and cultural exchange. By bringing together Saudi and international artists, it aims to tell a broader story of artistic evolution across generations.
This new institution will serve as the flagship home of SAMoCA, complementing the existing SAMoCA at JAX Center, which continues to energize the capital’s creative scene.
Sustainability is also at the heart of the project, with the design incorporating advanced environmental strategies aligned with modern global standards. This reflects a wider shift in how large-scale developments are being approached across the region.
More importantly, the museum is part of a much bigger picture. As Saudi Arabia works to diversify its economy and strengthen its cultural identity, projects like SAMoCA are helping position the Kingdom as a rising force in the global arts scene.
In the years ahead, SAMoCA is expected to do more than exhibit art—it will shape conversations, inspire new generations, and redefine how culture is experienced in the region.
