In times of uncertainty, art often becomes the most powerful way for a nation to express unity, gratitude and pride. The UAE recently witnessed such a moment through a moving musical tribute that transformed poetry into a powerful orchestral performance honouring those who defend the country.

The UAE National Orchestra released a new composition titled “Men, by God, Truly Men”, inspired by the poem Rijal Wallah Rijal written by Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The performance was shared alongside a video featuring the orchestra and choir bringing the words to life through music.

Originally composed by Mohammed Al Ahmed, the piece was later expanded into a full orchestral arrangement by composer and arranger Ahmed El-Mougy. The result is a symphonic work that blends traditional rhythmic elements with a contemporary orchestral style, reflecting both Emirati heritage and modern musical expression.

The performance begins with a powerful choral introduction that sets a solemn tone. Gradually, the orchestra joins in, building the emotional depth of the piece until it reaches a sweeping symphonic crescendo. In the final section, soprano voices rise above the orchestra, adding a sense of reverence and emotional intensity to the tribute.

According to Noura Al Kaabi, the poem represents the courage and commitment of those who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation and its people. Through music, the orchestra aimed to express the country’s collective appreciation and highlight the role of culture in reflecting national values.

Meanwhile, Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qassimi emphasized that the orchestra has a responsibility to reflect the spirit of the nation, especially during challenging times. She noted that this performance serves as a tribute to those who safeguard the UAE, while also symbolizing the pride, resilience and unity shared across the country.

What makes the performance particularly meaningful is the diversity behind it. The UAE National Orchestra brings together musicians and singers from various cultural backgrounds, all contributing to a collective sound rooted in Emirati musical traditions yet expressed through a global orchestral language.

In moments when words alone are not enough, music becomes the voice of a nation. Through this powerful composition, the UAE has once again demonstrated how culture can honour sacrifice, strengthen unity and celebrate the values that bind a country together.
