Dubai’s artistic landscape is entering a new chapter with the launch of Dom Art Projects, a female-led private art institution that promises to reshape the way art is experienced, discussed and imagined in the region. Opening its doors this November at Al Khayat Avenue in the heart of the Al Quoz Creative Zone, the space marks a significant addition to the city’s rapidly expanding cultural map.
Founded by Alisa Bagdonaite and Anna Pumpyanskaya, Dom Art Projects positions itself as more than just an exhibition venue. It is a hybrid space where museum-grade curation, artistic collaboration, research, creative thinking and public engagement converge under one roof. Their mission is clear: to create a home for dialogue, discovery and artistic exchange.
A Space Built for Exchange, Creation and Discovery
The opening weekend, running from 27 to 29 November, invites the public into an environment designed to spark conversation and experimentation. The institution includes:
-
A state-of-the-art main gallery
-
Three fully equipped artist residency studios
-
Dubai’s first dedicated art and culture-focused bookshop
-
A year-round program of workshops, talks, tours and community events
Together, these elements reflect the founders’ belief in creating a space where ideas evolve and creative networks flourish.
A Vision Rooted in Collaboration
“Dom Art Projects was founded to foster dialogue, discovery and engagement with the arts,” says Director Anna Pumpyanskaya. Her vision highlights the need for platforms that not only exhibit art but actively contribute to the growth of the region’s creative ecosystem.
Chief Curator Alisa Bagdonaite echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the value of shared creativity: “We want Dom Art Projects to be a place where artists, researchers, curators and the art-curious come together to reimagine what’s possible.”
This collaborative spirit extends into the institution’s partnerships — most notably a joint initiative with Bayt AlMamzar, offering young UAE-based artists the chance to join Dom Art Projects’ residency program through an open call.
An Opening Exhibition Inspired by Time
Dom Art Projects’ debut exhibition explores the theme of time — a poetic choice that resonates with the institution’s vision of continuity, dialogue and cultural connection. The theme also subtly echoes the Arabic meaning of the word “dom,” which translates to “always” or “everlasting.”
Occupying the main gallery, Japanese artist Michiko Tsuda presents a contemplative experience titled:
“You Would Come Back There to See Me Again the Following Day.”
This immersive installation, shown in the UAE for the first time, invites visitors into a looping narrative about memory, presence and recurrence.
Alongside it, Russian artist ::vtol:: showcases Takir, a kinetic sound sculpture that reflects on the disappearance of the Aral Sea and the cyclical patterns of geological time — merging science and art into a sonic landscape.
A Cultural Destination in the Making
During the opening weekend, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the exhibiting artists, explore the residency studios, and browse the bookshop — referred to by the founders as a collection of “time machines” that transport readers across eras and borders.
With its layered programming, strong curatorial voice and dedication to fostering creative relationships, Dom Art Projects is poised to become one of Dubai’s most influential hubs for contemporary art.
It is not merely a new venue — it is a living ecosystem where art is created, questioned, and shared.
