The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia marks a new milestone in luxury travel with the unveiling of Dream of the Desert, the nation’s first ultra-luxury train. Introduced at the 9th edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh, this project represents a major leap forward in experiential tourism and elegant mobility.
Developed by the Italian luxury hospitality group Arsenale in collaboration with Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, the Transport General Authority (TGA), the Ministry of Culture, and the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), the project reflects the Kingdom’s growing ambition to redefine high-end travel experiences and cultural tourism.
Design and Ambience
The interiors, envisioned by architect and designer Aline Asmar d’Amman, blend Saudi heritage with Italian artistry. Inspired by desert landscapes, the design features sandy browns, oasis greens, intricate wood carvings, and Murano-blown glass details that capture the warm glow of oriental lanterns. Every suite is crafted to evoke elegance and comfort, transforming the journey into a moving gallery of culture and craftsmanship.
Key Features
Dream of the Desert includes 31 private suites and two presidential suites, accommodating up to 66 guests. Onboard facilities include two refined restaurant cars and a luxurious Majlis lounge that reflects the Kingdom’s traditions of hospitality. The culinary program combines Saudi flavors with Italian fine dining excellence, curated by world-class chefs to meet Michelin-level standards.
The train will journey approximately 1,300 kilometers across Saudi Arabia, connecting Riyadh to key heritage and desert destinations. Each one- or two-night itinerary invites guests to discover UNESCO World Heritage sites and hidden landscapes, offering a deeply immersive experience of Saudi Arabia’s cultural and natural beauty.
Vision and Experience
Dream of the Desert aligns with Vision 2030, supporting Saudi Arabia’s goal of becoming a global hub for luxury tourism. It represents the intersection of innovation, culture, and sustainability — a symbol of progress and a celebration of identity. Launching in late 2026, the train promises to redefine the concept of luxury rail travel in the Middle East.
