Embodying the emirate’s vision to enhance book participation in achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in various countries of the world, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the International Publishers Association and representative of Sharjah, the “World Book Capital 2019” signed the charter of the World Book Capitals Network in the Polish city of Wroclaw.

The network includes the cities that have been awarded the title of "World Book Capital" by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It works to support the efforts of global capitals that intend to run for the title in organizing book and reading-related events and opening the way to benefit from previous programs to promote a culture of reading, research and learning. around the world, and signing this charter is an essential step to support the network and its role in motivating the signatories to officially commit to its initiative and efforts.

During the speech, Sheikha reviewed the experience of Sharjah, noting that the emirate succeeded in benefiting from the lessons imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and stressed the union's commitment to support the World Book Capitals Network to achieve common goals aimed at consolidating the role of writers in future societies.
