The sports documentary “Open Water Crossing”, produced by the healthy snack company Taqa, won two awards: Best Short- Lebanese Outdoors Film Festival 2020 and Best Short Film- WildSound Feedback Film Festival at the Wild Sound Feedback Film Festival And at the Lebanese Outdoor Cinema Festival 2020, after being nominated for the “Best Short Film” award in three national and international festivals (Manchester Film Festival, Wild Sound Feedback Film Festival, and Lebanese Outdoor Cinema Festival 2020).
The company had filmed and produced this film, directed by Edwin Al-Baynu, to document the swimming challenge that it organized in the open waters from Cyprus to Lebanon, on a 180 km trip, made by six swimmers, on October 17, 2019 at 13:45 pm.
The main objective of this challenge was to raise awareness about the harmful impact of single-use plastics in the Mediterranean and to reduce their use. These items consist of bottles, bags, straws, and tools such as spoons, forks, and knives.
The swimmers completed the first non-stop swimming in open water between Cyprus and Lebanon, setting the record 51 hours and 50 minutes upon their return to the Lebanese beaches on October 19 at 17:35 pm.
