Design students in Berlin, Lobke Beckfeld and Johanna Hehemeyer-Cürten, have developed a transparent fruit leather bag that dissolves in water and can be used to fertilize plants as soon as they are no longer needed.

Sonnet155 is made of two different materials from post-industrial waste - fruit peels left over from juice production and short cellulose fibers sourced from a local textile factory.

Although it resembles a handbag or tote with flap top handles, the product has a lifespan akin to a disposable paper bag and is designed to naturally degrade with wear before it is composted or ultimately recycled.
